Article: WHY WE LOVE OUR LIGHT UP DOG LEASHES

WHY WE LOVE OUR LIGHT UP DOG LEASHES

Every LITO product  is based on our personal camping experience and our light up leashes are no exception.  A few years ago we were camping at Carlsbad in Southern California for Easter weekend with several families. One evening after dinner, the kids were running around, having a blast and the three dogs attached to their long leashes were too.  It was one of those perfect camping nights, the stars were out, the adults were cozy by the fire relaxing and the kids were entertained, the dogs were gleeful. Tails were wagging, kids were laughing and adults were taking in the stars. Everyone was happy,  especially because the Easter Bunny was set to arrive the next morning.

And then a scream. My youngest daughter started to cry. She had tripped over one of the dog leashes in the middle of their game. After a few hugs, wiping some tears, cleaning the scrape and placing a Band-Aid on the injury, the idea popped into my head - long dog leashes should light up! And that’s when the LITO light up dog leash was born.

Every campground rule dictates that dogs must be on leash at all times. This makes perfect sense. No one wants other people’s dogs (as much as we love dogs) running into their campsite in case of an unfriendly encounter or dogs grabbing a midnight snack off of the picnic table.  We’ve always used long leashes to allow our dog, Bindi, to roam safely and freely. By adding lights to the long leash, our beloved camping dog buddies are allowed to walk around the campsite, stay visible and prevent humans from tripping over the leash in the dark.

Like everything we make at LITO, like the light up leash for dogs, was born at a real campsite, from a real moment, proof that the best ideas come from actually living the outdoor life we love.
