LITO Policies

LITO: Luxury in the Outdoors

Manufacturing Code of Conduct and Responsible Sourcing

1. Transparency

We pledge to operate openly and honestly at all stages of production — from sourcing to shipment. Communication is clear, records are maintained, and issues are addressed early.

2. Non‑Discrimination

We fully comply with California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), which forbids discrimination or retaliation toward any applicant or employee based on race or color, religion, national origin or ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, or mental condition, marital status, sex or sexual orientation, age with respect to persons over age 40, pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.

3. Harassment & Abuse

We enforce FEHA’s zero‑tolerance standard for harassment or abusive behavior — sexual harassment, intimidation, bullying, or insults — whether from supervisors, coworkers, or vendors. California law requires that employers “take reasonable steps to prevent and correct” harassment promptly.

4. Recruitment & Hiring

We follow all California guidelines in candidate screening and interviewing. Our employment contracts and/or contractor agreements reflect best practices.

5. Hours of Work

Contract employees set their schedule independently.

6. Compensation

We comply with California’s minimum wage requirements. Our contract employees are paid a living wage. We ensure timely payment of all wages. Factories in California comply with all State and Federal law. Locations in Mexico comply with the Ley Federal del Trabajo (LFT), or Mexican Federal Labor Law. The LFT covers a wide range of topics, including minimum wage, working hours, overtime pay, vacation time, profit sharing, and termination procedures. We practice pay equity across gender and race.

7. Health & Safety

Factories in Mexico and California comply with all State and Federal law and the Ley Federal del Trabajo (LFT), or Mexican Federal Labor Law. It is the primary legal framework governing labor relations in Mexico. It outlines the rights and obligations of both employers and employees, ensuring fair treatment, safe working conditions, and stable employment relationships.

8. Environment

We’re committed to minimizing environmental impact and improving sustainability. We have formal practices in place to:

  • To address waste impacts, we:

    • Reduce waste generation in production

    • Reduce waste generation in shipping

    • Reuse packaging materials

    • Reduce and reuse shipping materials

    • Eliminated primary plastic packaging

    • Avoid single‑use plastic throughout process

    • Include How2Recycle logo on LITO tags

  • To address climate impacts, we:

    • Minimize energy usage in manufacturing

    • Utilize an electric fleet

Responsible Sourcing at LITO

We are committed to sourcing materials in a way that supports people and the planet. Our oilcloth is responsibly sourced from a trusted factory in Mexico that prioritizes sustainability and regulatory compliance. The company works in compliance with the "The Ley Federal del Trabajo (LFT), or Mexican Federal Labor Law, the primary legal framework governing labor relations in Mexico.

To protect people and the planet, we:

  • Confirm that PFAS is not an ingredient in our oil cloth product

  • Recycle material from the printing process into new oilcloth

  • Ensure safe ink and cleaning agent disposal: The inks and cleaning agents used in production are safely handled and disposed of by a certified provider in full compliance with Mexico’s national environmental laws (SEMARNAT/PROFEPA).

By working with partners who care about environmental stewardship and responsible practices, we ensure our products reflect LITO’s core values: quality, integrity, and respect for nature.

Diversity, Inclusion & Cultural Respect Statement

At LITO, we believe the outdoors is for everyone — and so is our company.

We proudly offer over 30 vibrant patterns — from timeless polka dots, stripes, and florals to Día de los Muertos motifs and July 4th stars — all designed to reflect a wide range of personal tastes, colors and cultural traditions. Our oilcloth patterns originate in Mexico, and we work with suppliers who share our values of integrity, sustainability, and respect. We are careful to avoid cultural appropriation in all product choices; our mission is simply to help families enjoy nature with comfort, color, and joy — not to exploit culture.

LITO Diversity & Inclusion in Marketing

At LITO, our marketing reflects the real world — beautifully diverse, culturally rich, and unapologetically inclusive. Whether it's a campsite in California or a backyard BBQ in New Jersey, our goal is to show that everyone belongs in nature.

Here’s how we walk the walk:

  • Representation Matters: Our marketing features people of all ages, races, genders, body types, abilities, and family types — because outdoor joy isn’t one-size-fits-all.

  • Inclusive Storytelling: We spotlight real families and real moments, avoiding stereotypes and tokenism. We focus on shared experiences — the joy of gathering, the beauty of the outdoors, the magic of unplugging together. This includes all groups of all races, genders LGBTQ+, disabilities, military status, faith/religion, age and body size.

  • Respectful Use of Cultural Designs: While many of our patterns are inspired by Mexican textiles and traditions, we use them with care and context — never as costumes or gimmicks. We always acknowledge the cultural origins of our designs where appropriate.

  • Accessible Language: Our content is written to be clear, welcoming, and free of exclusionary jargon. When possible, we include Spanish-language options and alt text for all images.

  • Partnerships with Purpose: We seek to collaborate with diverse creators, photographers, and influencers who align with our values and help us reach broader communities authentically.
